Background Information:
Strengths and Specialties in Interior
Design: Don is the owner and president
behind Design Works, Inc. His
organizational skills and attention to
detail keep his jobs going smoothly and
on time. His communication skills help
his clients to know what to expect
during each phase of a project. He loves
taking on tough design projects that are
challenging but have tremendous
potential.
How long in the business? 20 years
Design Philosophy:
Don believes in staying away from
main stream design ideas. He feels that
homes can tend to look too dated if
people are apt to using trendy materials
and colors.
He also feels that the interior of a
home or office should reflect the
personality of the person he works with.
Completed Projects:
-
Private Residence; Deer Park, WA
-
Private Residence; Spokane, WA
-
Idaho Homeshow; ID
Experience and Credentials:
Don has a
BA degree in marketing from Eastern Washington University. He was a
realtor for 13 years and was recognized as one of the top 15 Realtors
in Spokane in 1978 and 1981. He has been doing interior design for the
past 15 years.
In addition
to his day to day responsibilities as CEO, Don calls on builders,
architects and drafts-people. If you are looking for referrals on
these services, Don is the man to see. Click here to be directed to

As overseer
of this company, Don's managerial style strives to empower the
company's
employees to do the best they can in all facets of this business and
in interior design. He
continually mines the talents and strengths of the designers, and has
realized there is an endless supply of natural resources within each
of them. Don considers himself blessed that he gets to work daily with
such a talented group of people.
Don is
actually quite the innovator when it comes to interior design. He
developed the first fireplace in Spokane County that doesn't need a
glass front. He also developed a glazing technique that is used over
hardi-board. It gives a stucco look at a fifth
of the cost of real stucco.
It is particularly well suited to use when trying to achieve an 'Old
World', 'Cottage', 'Craftsman', or 'Tudor' look.
Don
recently finished an interesting hardwood floor installation at his
personal residence. It is end-cut Hemlock, Oak, and Fir in a
Herringbone Brick Pattern. By changing the way the surface is
finished, this hardwood floor can be used in many different
applications. From 'Rustic', 'Log Cabin', and 'Rustic Elegance' to
'Sophisticated Asian' looks, this floor can pull it off.
